I am writing this letter to share my story about hair loss and how getting a hair transplant has changed my life. I am currently 31 years old and I first noticed that my hair was thinning at 25 years of age. As a young woman, I had decided this was the result of something other than that my hair was simply thinning. I was in denial of course and so I told myself that my hair was falling out because I was eating wrong or smoking too much or that it was from having had anesthesia during a surgical procedure.
After a few years or so of doing my denial thing, I realized that I had to do something other than make excuses because at my rate of hair loss it was becoming very noticeable. I went to several dermatologist, tricologist and so on... . But every single time I went, I felt as though I was leaving with no hope, no education and no answers. I would look in the mirror for long periods of time examining my head. I was noticing that it was getting so thin that you could see my scalp even if I put my hair up, in a ponytail. It was becoming an almost obsessive behavior (worrying about my hair). If it was wet then it was even more horrifying, how thin it looked. I would never spend the night sleeping out because I refused to have anyone see my hair in the morning, including my relatives. It destroyed my ability to have normal relationships, I was always a very active and pretty young woman with a great deal of confidence and then all of the sudden I became inactive & insecure because of my hair loss. I was unwilling to share my issue with my boyfriends and therefore I was limited the amount of intimacy I could create in those relationships. I never wanted them to see my "hair stress" and so I was not doing a lot of my normal activities like getting my hair wet in a pool, going to the beach, taking a shower in public, or even going out in the rain for that matter. These were not the most fun occasions in my life, it was a ton of effort on my part and I was just so miserable. I believe that all of this "hair stress" was keeping me from living and being who I really was and that was causing me to feel really depressed.
So if all of this was not bad enough I started finding comfort in food and went from a size 6 to a size 10. Then one day I decided that I simply was NOT going to have this problem anymore and I so I began my mission. I was so desperate at this point that I was willing to sell my soul to the devil for 10 strands of hair. So I decided to buy some hair growth products instead. I saw a nutritionist and herbalist, I read positive reinforcement books, I did yoga, I ate yogurt, you name it - I bought it - I tried it. I was living with the fear that the very moment I stopped using these nasty chemicals I would not only loose my hair but maybe end up with liver problem or brain damage from these expensive products which, by the way, require a lot of maintenance.
If you are reading this letter then chances are that you or someone you know is having a similar experience and I can tell you that this is probably the most traumatic experience anyone will ever have to overcome. I know that for me it was completely devastating. FINALLY one day my boyfriend had mentioned that he found this website on hair transplants and my first response was angry, of course. I said, "I refuse to have hair plugs! Absolutely NOT - then people will not only talk about me loosing my hair but how bad the hair plugs look. No thank you!" His reply was "this looks like it's totally different from hair plugs, according to what I am reading the hair is implanted in a very natural sporadic fashion that is 100% undetectable." Ultimately it was all true, so after we researched it and meet with as many companies as we could find that preformed this procedure, I chose Bosley to do my hair transplantation.
I really felt safe and confident with Bosley and therefore I scheduled the procedure with them in May of 2003. That was nine months ago and I have just started to really feel the full impact of my hair growth. It took about eight months to really grow in and I have to say it was well worth the wait! My hair looks thick and full! I feel as though I never even had a hair loss problem. I know that there it is even still more hair growing in, but at the fullness I have now - wow I am so satisfied. I can sleep out if I want to, I can wear my hair in a ponytail and not feel self-conscious. I can go swimming or get caught in the rain without any fear. In fact I am so much happier and confident that I am consequently making a lot more money in my sales job. A hair transplant was the best thing I ever did for myself!
If you have any doubts about doing this for yourself then I say YOUR WORTH IT! Finance it, sell your house, do whatever it takes to be happy because it really works. If you choose to have a hair transplant, your life will change for the better. Lastly I just wanted to mention that if you have concerns about the physical pain of this procedure then be assured it is not that bad, just remember this, whatever discomfort you may feel after the transplant is nothing compared to the daily pains that insecurity can cause. I would do it again if I had too.
